Fingerpicking
Fingerpicking is, no doubt, a guitar picking
technique. It is nonetheless a very refined and sophisticated
one. The fingerpicking technique uses a continuously played
baseline to "accompany itself" , making it seem
to the untrained ear as if there are two guitars playing at
the same time.
Compared to classical guitar, for example, the
music loses a bit of its austere quality, yet the fingerpicking
technique can lend itself beautifully even to classical works.
Since 1978 I have been using this technique
to present my widely varied performances, on stage, at events
or on CDs. Whatever the style may be: folk, swing or classical
music, jazz, blues or country
